This lecture draws on the case study of Singapore to discuss the important role of theatre plays in the rise of local consciousness among the Chinese communities across East and Southeast Asia during the 1980s. The speaker will touch on Kuo Pao Kun’s efforts in constructing a multilingual theatre praxis.
