ETYMOLOGY
- The Mandarin term “一次过” appears to be a paraphrase of the English term “one-off”.
- In Singapore, the term can be used in two different ways:
- To describe something that only needs to be done once, and never again. For example: “The registration fee is a one-off payment of S$10.”
To emphasise that something has been completed or done all at once within a short period of time. For example: “I read five books at one go.”
